, born 1956 in Philadelphia, was already a prize winning sculptor before beginning his instrument making studies at age 15. He is a graduate of the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, and also studied with Carl Becker. He received five years of additional training in the restoration workshop of Jacques Français and René Morel. Since 1985 he has worked independently in Brooklyn, NY, making faithful copies of classic instruments as well as fresh interpretations in the classic style. A member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers, he has been active as a teacher and judge of violin making, and his designs and research are often featured in THE STRAD magazine, focusing on the interplay between tradition and innovation in violinmaking. He also plays the violin, and has performed, toured and recorded with a variety of folk music ensembles.
